Hoisington, KS — Liberal High School Lady Redskin Golf traveled to Lake Barton Golf Club to participate in the Hoisington High School Invitational on Monday, September 30. Only two Lady Redskins made the trip and participated.
Fighting off swarming mosquitoes was part of the difficulties on the day along with traversing the hilly terrain of Lake Barton Golf Club. “The terrain gives us a challenge,” Coach Bert Luallen stated. “We’re so used to the flat terrain of Willow Tree, it’s difficult to adjust to lies where the ball is almost always either above or below your feet, or playing an uphill or downhill shot.”
Addy Lopez shot a 62 to finish in a tie for 21st while Scarlett Carr carded a 67 to finish 27th. The medalist was Erin Tims, a Senior from Larned, who shot a 44, along with Jenna Brull of Hays-TMP; Tims defeated Brull in a playoff for first place.
“Today wasn’t our best day,” Luallen said. “Neither Addy or Scarlett could seem to get settled into their game. The conditions and the mosquitoes really affected them. But that’s golf. You’re not always going to play better.”
The positive aspect of this tournament is that the girls got a look at Lake Barton GC, where they will be playing next Monday for the Great Bend High Invitational, a WAC event. On Thursday, the they will travel to Carey Park in Hutchinson, site of this year’s 6A State Tournament, to play in the Hutchinson High Invitational.
