Lehigh Valley Health Network is eliminating about 100 positions throughout its system, company officials said.
Though it did not specify which positions, none were in hospital settings, said Michael Peckman, director of marketing and public affairs for Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill in Pottsville.
Some of those jobs are in Schuylkill County, where in addition to the hospital the network also operates seven physician practices and five outpatient practices, including in Pottsville, Pine Grove, Orwigsburg, Saint Clair and Frackville, he said. An exact number of positions cut in the county was not available.
Some jobs are also being eliminated in Luzerne County, where the company operates a number of outpatient facilities and Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton, but again, no further details were released.
In August, Lehigh Valley Health Network completed its merger with Jefferson Health, forming one of the 15 largest not-for-profit health systems in the U.S.
The staff cuts were not related to that merger, the company said in a press release:
“Lehigh Valley Health Network has made some changes in areas that provide outpatient care to align the staffing structure with community needs,” the company said in the release. “This work began well in advance of our combining with Jefferson Health as a way to ensure operational efficiency so that we can invest in the programs and services our communities need.”
The company did not say whether the elimination of positions would result in any service changes.
