In the Los Angeles Lakers’ second preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, history was made as LeBron James and his son Bronny shared the court together for the first time. It was the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo took the floor together.
It was a special moment for all NBA fans but for the James family as well. The Lakers star forward has talked about his dream of playing alongside his son on the floor for years now and it has finally come true.
After the game, LeBron took to social media to reflect on it all. He was clearly emotional from the moment and it showed in his post.
While the two didn’t play together long, it was still a cool moment for the entire basketball community. We will likely see the two players take the court together at least once during the regular season but it will be few and far between.
The rookie also reflected on the moment, downplaying it entirely.
“I’m always thinking about ‘That’s my dad’ because that’s literally my dad,” he said. “So I just go out there and, when I’m playing, he’s just my teammate. That’s all I’m thinking at that point.”
Bronny is expected to play the majority of his games in the G-League as he looks to develop his game more. He is still a fairly raw NBA prospect and the Lakers want to allow him time to grow as a player.

If Los Angeles can be patient with the young guard, he could end up becoming an impactful type of player down the line. Bronny has strong instincts on the defensive end of the floor, a trait that just can’t be taught at any level of basketball.
“It’s just taking everything that has happened to me during this year, getting up and continuing to work every day,” he said. “Just finding fuel every day to get up and start working. JJ has really emphasized the defensive end and being a pest on defense. So that’s what I’ve been trying to focus on stepping on the floor.”
Bronny’s jump shot is still a bit of a work in progress but the Lakers are hopeful that it will develop over time. If he can become a knockdown 3-point shooter, his time in the NBA will come sooner rather than later.
But for now, Bronny still has work to do on his own game and LeBron is being tasked with leading the Lakers on another title run.
