The Law & Public Safety students at the Tippah County Career & Technology Center participated in a fitness event with firefighter gear in remembrance of 9/11. This class aims at preparing students who are interested in pursuing jobs in pubic safety. These types of jobs, according to the class description, include the people who protect and serve, the careers that turn the wheels of the justice system, and everyday heroes whose jobs are to save lives.

When asked about the activity, instructor Summer Gibens said the following:
“We do physical training every Friday – Fitness Friday , since every one of these career pathways you possibly have to take PT test , carry heavy equipment , weighed vest, etc.
In remembrance of 9/11 we used the gear we had and we walked so show the students how heavy this equipment is. Firefighters carry minimum of 100 lbs of gear, and they climbed a total of 110 stories that day with all the equipment and plus climbing the stairs to save people in the twin towers.
I wanted the students to see how important exercise is not only for all these career pathways but for physical and mental health overall.
And also to remember the heroes that day.
For me this walk of faith from stepping down from being a flight nurse full time to part time has been amazing teaching and working with my students , they are thriving and engaging in all the activities, hands on, and learning thus far this year.
They have blossomed into leadership skills, team work, accountability, and most of all wanting to serve the communities they live in.
They are absolutely amazing and fills my heart with so much joy that I can pour my heart and soul that I have for my profession that I love into these students.”
