New Purdue football coach Barry Odom made a late addition to his first recruiting class on the eve of the beginning of the late signing period.
Maxwell Barbee, a defensive back from Long Beach (Cal.) Wilson High School, announced his commitment to the Boilermakers’ 2025 recruiting class Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect does not have a ranking in the 247Sports national composite and listed only one other offer, from New Mexico.
Barbee would become the 12th member of the 2025 signing class — six of whom enrolled early and already joined the program. Barbee joins about a week after freshman safety Antonio Parker was dismissed from the team following his arrest.
The only other known defensive back commitment to this class is cornerback Zyntreacs Otey, who is from Tennessee.
Wednesday marks the beginning of the late signing period. Barbee would join New York edge rusher Mason Alnutt and Pennsylvania long snapper Justin Schmidt as players expected to sign.
