LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas City Council will consider a 255-acre housing development to be built on the long-defunct Badlands Golf Course.
The agenda for Wednesday’s council meeting includes a hearing for land use entitlement requests for the property, which sits at the corner of Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard.
Development company Lennar Homes filed details for the development with the Las Vegas City Planning Commission, which gave a unanimous recommendation last month.
The company is seeking planning amendments, rezoning, and a site development review for the new development.

Lennar has proposed building 1,480 homes at the site. The western two-thirds of the land would be used for 559 single-family homes, and the remaining eastern portion would have 921 single-family attached homes and multi-unit condominiums built as four-plexes and eight-plexes.
The city of Las Vegas was engaged in a protracted legal battle over previous plans to develop Badlands, which developer Yohan Lowie bought in 2016.
The city denied an application to build a development at the golf course, citing concerns from neighboring residents and arguing the land was only meant for parks or open spaces. Lowie countered that zoning ordinances allowed for residential development, and he argued that rejecting his application destroyed the economic value of the land.
Years of litigation came to an end in December when the Las Vegas city attorney said the parties agreed to a settlement. The city will pay Lowie $636 million to collectively settle the litigation and buy the property. Lennar would then buy the property from the city for $350 million.
Las Vegas will institute a hiring freeze for most positions because of the settlement, Deputy City Manager Sabra Newby told state lawmakers last week.
