Gibbs’ remarks came in response to training photos shared by the South African cricket team ahead of the second T20I against Pakistan.
In the images, some players appeared to lack the desired fitness levels, prompting Gibbs to take a sly dig.
The former cricketer tweeted, “Lads are eating well”, drawing attention to the fitness concerns within the squad. His comment quickly gained traction.

This isn’t the first time Herschelle Gibbs has stirred discussions about South African cricket. A month ago, he subtly mocked his compatriot AB de Villiers during a social media exchange.
Responding to a fan’s comparison of their careers, Gibbs cheekily pointed out, “And I’ve won an IPL as well.”
Gibbs’ comment referred to his IPL title with the Deccan Chargers in 2009, a feat that de Villiers, despite his stellar IPL performances, never achieved.
Despite the chatter about fitness, the Proteas showcased exceptional resilience on the field, securing a thrilling victory in the second T20I against Pakistan.
Reeza Hendricks was the star of the match, scoring a brilliant 117 runs off just 63 balls. His partnership of 157 runs with Rassie van der Dussen set the foundation for a successful chase of Pakistan’s daunting 207-run target.
Pakistan’s innings were powered by Saim Ayub’s 98, but their bowlers couldn’t defend the total, as South Africa clinched the match by seven wickets with three balls to spare.
