The top of the rankings mostly remained static as most teams didn’t play the week before Christmas tournaments began.
The top three remain the same. Lyons should be tested at the Montini Christmas Tournament. Kenwood is traveling for the holidays after a blowout win last week against Lane. Benet picked up a double-digit win against Carmel on Saturday.
Stability, however, didn’t exist in the rest of the rankings. St. Ignatius moved up one spot over Young after the Wolfpack picked up three wins in three days (Loyola Academy, Taft, and Homewood-Flossmoor). Young is still one of the best teams in the state, but the Dolphins lost four straight games when it traveled out of state.
The middle class of the rankings was in a bit of a flux this week. Batavia, in particular, had a great week. The Bulldogs are 8-2 and earned wins against St. Charles North and Geneva. Kevin Jensen has Batavia playing cohesively. Senior guard Hallie Crane is averaging 13.4 points. I’m curious to see how Batavia fares at the Loyola Christmas Tournament.
Hinsdale Central also saw a jump after knocking off Downers Grove North in its 46-30 win. They play against Elk Grove on Monday.
I’ll be at the Montini and Loyola this week. The holiday tournaments at both schools should bring some intrigue for next week’s rankings.
