COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John’s junior Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Kress earned medalist honors for the second time of his career with a two-round total of 137 (-7) as No. 12 SJU won its Fall Invitational by 15 shots (E, 576) over the weekend. He carded five birdies and eagled the par-5 No. 15 (504 yards) for a career-best 66 (-6) in Saturday’s (Sept. 14) opening round at St. Cloud C.C. The -6 was tied for the second-best round in SJU history, one shot behind the record of -7 scored by Josh Sherlin ’05 on Sept. 8, 2003, at the Bemidji State Invitational.
Kress followed that with a 71 (-1), his team-leading third round at par or better already this season, Sunday at Blackberry Ridge G.C. in Sartell. He went -7 on the tourney’s eight par-5 holes and tied for first in the 78-man field with nine birdies overall.
SJU returns to the course for the three-day Twin Cities Classic, hosted by No. 25 Gustavus Adolphus, Sept. 28-30.
