KINGSTON — City council is to be presented with four options for the new little league baseball diamond fencing in the Cricket Field.

In September, following the Canadian Little League Championships in August, council was asked by residents from the area to remove the outfield fencing.
Delegations to council, including from the Sydenham District Association, said removal of the fencing after the championships was part of the agreement that allowed the diamond to be built on the historic site.
Baseball supporters, including the Kingston Minor Baseball Association, which hosted the championships, argued the existing fencing was expensive to install, as would having to annually install temporary fencing to play on the diamond.
In a report to council, four options are to be considered.
The changes that could be made range from the installation of pedestrian gates in the fencing, to removing the outfield fence and the annual installation of temporary home run fencing.
The options range in cost from $50,000 to $220,000, with some options coming with up to $20,000 in seasonal costs for the reinstallation of fencing.
Regardless of which option council chooses, the bright yellow fence topping is to be replaced with black material and changes are to be made to fencing around the dugouts.
City council is to consider its options at its Tuesday night meeting.
