Kevin Durant has an extensive list of media members he has gotten into it with over the years. But on Monday, Durant took aim at the very vocal majority of media personalities who voiced their complaints about the 2025 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night.
To say that Sunday’s 2025 NBA All-Star Game wasn’t well received would be an understatement. Media members and fans bashed the event for several reasons.
Durant took to social media on Monday to share his thoughts on the negativity around the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, suggesting that critics of the game enjoy complaining more than they enjoy watching basketball.
“I think it’s more fun to complain about the NBA than to actually watch it,” wrote Durant on X Monday. “Crazy, cancel All-Star weekend, and let’s just give everybody a break since we’re so miserable around this time…”

Complaints about the current NBA product extend far beyond just the All-Star Game. So perhaps Durant has a point when it comes to media members constantly poking holes about how the game is currently played.
But there were plenty of valid complaints about the All-Star Game presentation. The event has essentially become more filler than live basketball, with celebrities being emphasized more and more and commercials nearly doubling the time of actual basketball on Sunday night.
While this is out of the players’ control, there is also a giant elephant in the room that they can certainly control: the overall effort level around the All-Star Game, which has been lacking for years now.
When you compare the competitiveness around the NBA All-Star Game and the NHL’s revamped 4 Nations Face-Off format, it is quite clearly a night and day difference.
The NBA has reportedly floated potential changes for the 2026 All-Star Game in Los Angeles, including a 1-on-1 tournament. So clearly, the league sees that the latest iteration wasn’t the fix everyone hoped it would be.
Whether Durant wants to admit it or not, is that there is no easy fix for the NBA to make to revive the All-Star Game unless the players buy in and take pride in playing in the once-prominent event. But instead of acknowledging that fact, the NBA star is more interested in playing the role of the martyr.
