Coming off her six-length, debut triumph just 23 days ago for trainer Bob Baffert, Maysam is the 9-5 morning-line favorite Sunday for the 22nd Sunland Park Oaks, a $250,000 points prep for Kentucky Oaks 2025.

Baffert has won the New Mexico race a record eight times, most recently in 2019 with Chasing Yesterday.

A $500,000 Game Winner filly owned by Michael Lund Petersen, Maysam defeated five rivals as the 1-2 favorite in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden race Jan. 24 at Santa Anita. She earned a 74 Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form.

Sunday’s two-turn mile will be the first time Maysam tries a route race. Facing six rivals, she and jockey Juan Hernández drew post 4.

Runnin N Gunnin (3-1) and Enchanting (7-2), a pair of Gun Runner fillies trained by Steve Asmussen, are the second and third choices in the program after Jan. 19 wins as odds-on favorites. Runnin N Gunnin finished first by 4 1/2 lengths at Sam Houston in a one-mile allowance race for non-winners of two. Enchanting, a Winchell Thoroughbreds homebred, broke her maiden going 6 1/2 furlongs against 10 other 3-year-old fillies at Remington Park.

Alfredo Juárez rides Runnin N Gunnin from post 2. Ramón Vázquez and Enchanting will break from post 5.

Sunday’s race will be worth 20-10-6-4-2 Kentucky Oaks qualifying points for the top five finishers. The Sunland Park Oaks is the seventh of 10 races on the card and is scheduled to start at 5:13 p.m. EST.
