EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Brady Kaufmann is tied for third, Will Simpson is tied for sixth and SIUE golf is sixth after the first round at Wichita State’s Grier Jones Shocker Invitational.
The Cougars are six strokes off the leaders Denver (+2). Hosts Wichita State and Incarnate Word are tied for second, three strokes back.
Kaufmann carded a 70 (-2) while Simpson came in at 71 (-1). Brent Reintjes and Preston Bily, who is playing as SIUE’s individual, both shot 76 and are tied for 39th. Alex Eickhoff is tied for 64th at 79. Max Bruening shot an 80 and is tied for 72nd.
Southern Indiana’s Jason Bannister shot a 68 (-4) and leads the field after the first round.
The second round gets underway Monday morning. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m.
