PEORIA, Ariz. – The Kansas women’s golf team leads the Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational after 36 holes with a score of -26. Senior Lauren Clark leads the way for the Jayhawks with a score of 67-65 (-12).
Kansas leads the pack with a score of -26, followed by UNLV (-11), and Kansas State (-10), while Minnesota (-4) and Louisiana Monroe (-4) are tied to round out the top five.
“We have a 15-stroke lead going into the final round, which is great. One thing that we talked about this week is to continue to stay aggressive on this course because we know that scores can be low, so continuing to give yourself birdie opportunities is huge.” Head Coach Lindsay Kuhle said following the first two rounds.
ROUND ONE
Junior Amy DeKock led the way for the Jayhawks in their opening round Sunday, posting a career-low score of 66 (-6), which put her tied for first place following the first 18 holes. A score of 66 (-6) gives DeKock the third lowest 18-hole score in program history. DeKock was able to card eight birdies to contrast only two bogeys in the first round.
Clark was also able to put together an impressive round with a score of 67 (-5), where she was able to card five birdies to go along with her bogeyless round. Clark finished the first round tied for third place.
Freshman Ebba Nordstedt finished the opening round with a score of 69 (-3), and was able to card four birdies to go along with a bogeyless front nine.
Senior Lily Hirst finished her first 18-holes of the day with a score of 70 (-2). Hirst grabbed one birdie on the front nine, and then grabbed two more on her bogeyless back nine.
Senior Johanna Ebner and sophomore Lyla Louderbaugh both finished the opening round with a 71 (-1). Ebner had a very consistent round resulting in two birdies in the round, while Louderbaugh started with three bogeys and ended with four birdies.
ROUND TWO
Clark was a main factor for the Jayhawks in the second round with a 65 (-7), and sits at the top of all individuals with scores of 67-65 (-12). Clark was able to card seven birdies to go along with her second bogeyless round of the day.
“Lauren Clark played another fantastic two rounds for us with 67-65. She’s just been striking the ball really well and has really good speed on her puts, and has made a lot of puts for 12 birdies, and no bogeys is pretty impressive out here.” Kuhle said.
DeKock and Ebner both finished the second round of the day with a score of 70 (-2), DeKock now sits tied for 3rd place at -8, and Ebner sits tied for 17th place at -3.
Nordstedt finished Sunday with scores of 69-71 (-4) and sits inside the top 20 in 14th place.
“Amy had a career low for her with a 66 in the first round, then a 70 with a birdie on the last hole. Great effort by her, and then Ebba in her first time in our lineup shooting a 69-71. She was playing with great poise, confidence and competitiveness was great to see.” Kuhle said.
Hirst finished tied for 25th place, with scores of 70-73 (-1).
Louderbaugh, who is competing as an individual, finished her second round with a score of 73 (+1), and sits tied for 29th place heading into the final round.
