LAHAINA, Hawaii – The Kansas men’s golf team fired off a 35-under team score to finish in third place out of 21 teams at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii. The Jayhawks were led by an eighth-place finish from senior Gunnar Broin (-11).
The Jayhawks finished with a total team score of 817 (-35), which is the second-lowest 54-hole team score in program history. In October 2021, the Jayhawks shot an 800 at the Ka’anapali Classic. The Jayhawks shot -15 on Saturday, -11 on Sunday and -9 on Monday to conclude the event.
During the final round, Broin and sophomore Noah Holtzman both shot final round 67’s to lead the way for the Jayhawks. Sophomore Max Jelinek carded a third-round 69 (-2), while Luke Honner and Will King both shot rounds of 72 (+1).
“We got off to a really good start today and then had a few bad swings and bad decisions in the middle of the round,” said Kansas Head Coach Jamie Bermel. “Overall, I’m proud of the guys. We just didn’t quite get it done today but beat some really good teams.”
Broin and Holtzman were the low Jayhawks for the final round, as the pair both recorded a 67 in their final round. Broin rode a hot start of six consecutive birdies to start his round and cruised into the clubhouse at four under par. Broin finished in eighth place for the tournament at -11.
Holtzman played steady golf, tallying 12 pars and five birdies on his way to matching Broin with a four-under round to close out the fall season. Holtzman ended that tournament at -9, good for a tie of 14th place and his best finish as a Jayhawk.
Jelinek finished the tournament and the fall season on a high note as well, totaling eight pars and six birdies on his way to a two-under round of 69. Jelinek finished in 28th place at -6 for the Ka’anapali Classic.
King and Honner both recorded a +1 round of 72 during Monday’s final round. King finished the tournament in 42nd with a score of -4, and Honner finished right behind King with a tournament score of -3, good for 49th place.
Felix Bouchard, who competed for Kansas as an individual, shot up 20 spots on the individual leaderboard after firing off a final-round score of 68. Bouchard finished in 80th place +2.
No. 2-ranked Oklahoma took the team title with a team score of 810 (-42). Colorado took second at the Ka’anapali Classic, besting the Jayhawks by one shot, with a team score of 816.
