If Kalen DeBoer chooses the building of the Alabama Football 2025 roster can take a pause. That circumstance is almost staggering given the roster transition that began last January and took months to subside. As of Dec. 21st, the Crimson Tide is at 14 Transfer Portal exits and five Portal additions. The Crimson Tide has also added two preferred walk-on specialists.
The five scholarship players added through transfer are all in positions of need for the 2025 roster. An additional cornerback was an important add and could become more important if Domani Jackson decides to make the jump to the NFL. The Tide’s cornerback addition is the former Utah Ute, Cameron Calhoun. Cameron transferred from Michigan to Utah for the 2024 season. He was fourth-best among Big 12 defensive backs with nine PBUs.
Alabama Football also added two other defenders who will compete for starting roles. Florida transfer Kelby Collins will provide a physical presence at the Bandit position and can be expected to rotate there in the fall. Colorado transfer inside linebacker, Nikhai Hill-Green could be the successor to Jihaad Campbell’s starting role, if Campbell, as expected declares for the NFL Draft. Hill-Green was the top off-the-ball linebacker in the Big 12 last season and is a hole-filling, run-stopping thumper. There are many reasons to believe Collins and Hill-Green will be key players for Kane Wommack next season.
The Crimson Tide has added two offensive transfers. Redshirt sophomore, Isaiah Horton was a mainstay in the Miami offense this season, with 56 catches and five touchdowns. At 6’4″, 205 lbs. Horton is almost a lock to start next season. The other offensive addition is Texas A&M offensive guard, Kam Dewberry. Dewberry will have to beat out other contenders, but with his considerable SEC experience, he should have a chance to start.
Just because Kalen DeBoer can afford to be patient, does not mean he must be. Should a top offensive tackle or top interior defensive lineman become available, Alabama will certainly look to at least add depth at the positions. Also, Baylor transfer safety Corey Gordon is visiting on Sunday. If there is a chance Keon Sabb might try the NFL, Gordon could be a good pickup.
The main early Transfer Portal entry period ends on Dec. 28, but after the ReliaQuest Bowl, Crimson Tide players can enter the Portal until Jan. 5. There may be more departures and almost certainly there will be more when the Transfer Portal opens again in April.
Exits and additions for the Alabama Crimson Tide 2025 roster are far from finished. At this point, Kalen DeBoer has a few holes to fill and may only need to add a handful of players to have the 2025 roster set. Or, as set as any roster can be in the Portal Era.
