It was nearly a disastrous night for Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Josh Newton, but it turned into a special one.
After walking off the field after getting banged up in his first career NFL game, the rookie corner snagged his first career interception on the very next drive vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Newton went up and hauled in his first NFL pick at the expense of Bucs QB Kyle Trask.
A fifth-round pick out of TCU in the NFL Draft back in April, Newton has done nothing but impress teammates and coaches in training camp. This will certainly help as he looks to crack the rotation at cornerback when the regular season begins.
There was a friendly bet the first week of camp that Bengals legend Chad Ochocinco could beat a current Bengals corner in a route. That didn’t work so well for Chad, as Newton tangled him up within his first couple of steps.
The rookie has obviously shown potential and proves that to everyone with that INT.
Hopefully, many more to come.
