WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – On December 13 of last year, one local family lost a beloved husband and father, Josh Johns. On Saturday, the first Josh Johns Memorial Golf Tournament was held in Chipley to honor Josh’s memory and his love for the game of golf.
Josh Johns and his wife Jessica were shot by Jessica’s stepfather in the SweetBay neighborhood in Panama City. Josh did not survive, but Jessica is still recovering from gunshot wounds.
We’re told 124 golfers, and friends and family gathered at the Sunny Hills Golf and Country Club to honor Josh.
Tournament organizers say over $34,000 dollars was raised which will be gifted to Jessica to help with medical bills, funeral costs, and care for the children.
“I want to give a special thanks to Scott and the Sunny Hills Golf Club for opening the course to us and making the entire event possible. Their generosity is just another example of the unbelievable support that has been shown during this tragic time,” said Troy Davidow, Josh’s friend and the tournament organizer.
