Jordan Love was officially marked as questionable to play in Sunday’s Week 9 game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers on Friday, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler provided an update on the situation Saturday morning.
Head coach Matt LaFleur would love to have his quarterback return and ready to roll tomorrow afternoon, and there seems to be a good chance of it happening. According to Fowler, Love will take all the way up until kickoff to see how he feels, and if nothing changes from now until then, he should be good to go.
“He’s got the groin issue he’s been dealing with all week. It’s a minor injury, it’s considered. Now, the Packers are probably going to take this up closer to game time, see how he feels, with a huge game at the Lions,” Fowler reported on SportsCenter. “He wants to play. This is tracking to a sense where he’s going to try, and there’s some optimism, because he went through two limited practices this week, one in the rain, and there were no major hurdles here. So, it’s just about managing the situation.
“Now look, they’ve got Malik Willis as the backup. He’s 2-0 as a starter in Green Bay, done well with play-caller, head Coach Matt LaFleur, so they’re not afraid of that. But this is a massive game that they would love Jordan Love for. He’s trying to get back, we’ll see how it goes today, leading up to tomorrow morning.”
That’s great news from Fowler, backing up what Love told reporters earlier this week, stating there’s a “realistic” possibility he plays against the Packers’ 6-1 NFC North rival, and it seems like his status backs up that assertion. LaFleur wouldn’t guarantee anything, but the quarterback is evidently keeping hope alive.
“I think it’s realistic,” said Love, when asked if there was a shot at him playing against Detroit, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Time will tell if Jordan Love is able to play, but the quarterback himself has called it less than ideal to not practice in preparation for a big-time matchup with their NFC North rivals. How effective he is, if he does suit up, remains to be seen.
