John Daly had emergency hand surgery this week.
The legendary golfer shared the scary news on Instagram with a photo from a hospital in Florida.
“Emergency hand surgery… thankful [it] went great and Doc McClimans for taking care of me. Be back playing in no time!” Daly wrote on the platform.
In another post, which was tagged in Tampa, Florida, Daly again thanked those who performed the operation while vowing to get back on the golf course “soon.”
“Thank you to Doc McClimans for getting me mended back!” he wrote. “Should be hitting em again soon! Thx for all the messages.”
PGA Tour Champions sent its best to Daly.
“Wishing John Daly a speedy recovery!” the tour for golfers 50 years and older wrote in a post on X.
It’s been a rough few months for the 58-year-old Daly, who saw his $1.4 million Clearwater, Florida, home get destroyed in Hurricane Helene in October.
Roughly a half-dozen of his friends and family had their properties ruined by the storm, too.
“I’m just glad everyone is healthy, that’s the main thing,” he told the PGA Tour’s website at the time. “You live in Florida, you have to understand that’s going to happen, but not like this. I didn’t think it would be this bad.”
Daly, who is known for his drinking and cigarette smoking on the golf course, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2020.
He underwent surgery to remove the cancer but said there was a strong chance of the disease returning.
“Luckily for me, they caught it early, but bladder cancer is something that I don’t know all the details,” he said. “But it doesn’t look like it may go away. We will just see what happens. Maybe there’s a miracle.”
Daly joined the PGA Tour in 1991, winning five tournaments over his career, including two major championships: the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship.
