After six years together, and four Grand Slam titles, Britain’s top men’s doubles player Joe Salisbury has split with his playing partner, Rajeev Ram.
A hugely successful partnership saw them take the world No. 1 ranking, as well as win three consecutive US Open titles.
Their first major victory came at the Australian Open in 2020, before they went to dominate at Flushing Meadows in 2021, 2022, 2023.
The duo’s winning run in New York was ended this year with their last-16 exit against Jackson Withrow and Nathaniel Lammons proving to be their final outing together.
Salisbury said he received “horrific abuse” online after that defeat, and took to social media to address it in the aftermath.
“There’s a lot more to life than winning or losing a tennis match. But I appreciate all the genuine support from everyone who has enjoyed the good times and felt for and with us in the bad,” he said.
As well as their Grand Slam success, Salisbury and Ram have won 10 ATP Tour titles, including the ATP Finals in 2022 and 2023.
Neither player has shared publicly why they have chosen to go their separate ways, but Ram has posted about the “memories” he has with Salisbury on Instagram.
Writing on social media, Ram said: “Six years is a long time in the life of a professional tennis player.
“Joe and I had some amazing wins, some epic matches and moments, and some gut-wrenching losses.
“But the reality is that the reason we got to experience some of the highest highs in the sport and were able to recover from the lowest lows were the people around us.
“We played together for six years, but we made memories and friends for a lifetime… and for that I’m truly grateful.”
