For the second month in a row, unemployment has dropped in both Vermilion County and Danville. Vermilion County’s numbers show the unemployment rate falling from 6.9% in August to 6.3% in September. Vermilion County’s rate was at 5.9% in September of 2023.
For the City of Danville, the unemployment rate has dropped from 8.3% in August in 7.5% in September. Danville’s rate stood at 7.2% in September of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment has decreased by 300 when comparing September of 2023 to September of 2024. The main factors in that are an increase of 300 in Government jobs, countered by a drop of 500 in Manufacturing jobs.
Other categories are stable since last year; including Private Education and Health Services, Information, Leisure and Hospitality, Mining and Construction, Professional Business Services, Retail Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Wholesale Trade, Financial Activities, and Other Services.
