SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The city of South Euclid will host a free career fair March 20 open to residents of all communities that will feature a list of employers from the private and public sector.
“We want to encourage careers in public service, but also want to use the opportunity to highlight the businesses in our community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Daniel Subwick. “We’ll have about 15-plus businesses there.”
Billed as the city’s “First Annual” Career Fair, the event will take place from 3-7 p.m. March 20 in the Community Room at South Euclid City Hall, 1349 S. Green Road.
“It’s really designed to attract attendees from all over, not just South Euclid,” said Planning and Development Director Michael Love. “Companies that are going to be at the career fair are offering all sorts of opportunities, from full-time careers to part-time positions.
“So, basically, anyone interested in a job or potentially changing careers is very much encouraged to attend.”
Some of the entities expected to be on hand for the fair include Cuyahoga County Public Library, Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, Dollar Bank, Giant Eagle, Rochling, Waterway, McGregor/Hospice of Greater Cleveland, and Cuyahoga Community College.
Also present will be South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools and representatives from each South Euclid city department.
“We’ll have refreshments for people to enjoy, but I think the most beneficial thing is we’ll have a professional photographer on-site who will be doing headshots, all for free, for the public, obviously geared toward folks who are looking for jobs,” said Subwick.
“You’ll be able to come in, meet with prospective employers, talk with government officials, and get an updated headshot that you can use on your Linked In profile, your professional social media.
“And I’m working to secure a resume writer. So if somebody needs someone to take a look at their resume, maybe they’re transitioning jobs and want to make sure it comes off correctly on paper, I’m working to have a resume writer there.”
“I’m expecting a pretty good crowd, especially for businesses that are looking to hire.”
Subwick said there are always openings occurring in government positions.
“Whether it’s in public works, police, fire,” he said, “we want to encourage people to look into these types of careers to fill open spots when they become open.
“A career in public administration, you can do a lot of things, especially if you want to get into public works. There’s a lot there in engineering and mechanical systems, all the way to being a law enforcement official, auxiliary officers, or someone who works in a records room. Or, in the municipal court if you want to get into the justice system.
“We hope to have as many city hall departments present as possible, and surrounding local businesses.”
Subwick said there are also openings for summer help in South Euclid Parks and Recreation Department.
