COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets increased between July and August, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 54,503 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between July 14 and August 13, the agency reported.
That’s an increase of 2,456 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period but a 4,523 decrease from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 186,776, an increase of 8,770 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent an increase of 8,356 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 29.2%, and upper middle income, 28.1%; followed by six-figure jobs, 21.2%; high-income jobs, 11.1%; and entry-level jobs, 10.3%. Most jobs, 42.8%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 33.7% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 16.9% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 4.2% a doctorate and 2.3% a master’s degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 4,178; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 2,417; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 2,236; retail salespersons, 2,171; and stockers and order fillers, 1,140.
Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 28.1%, and middle income, 27.8%; followed by six-figure jobs, 22.8%; high-income jobs, 11.1%; and entry-level jobs, 10.2%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 40.9%; while 35.9% require a bachelor’s degree, 16.5% an associate’s degree, 4.3% a doctoral degree and 2.5% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 12,019; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 8,892; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 6,887; retail salespersons, 6,537; and stockers and order fillers, 3,756.
