For Jannik Sinner, the year 2024 will forever be remembered as the one when he made a name for himself in professional tennis.
Sinner has dominated the sport this year, claiming eight titles with last night’s ATP Finals win the cherry on the cake.
The 23-year-old has claimed two Grand Slam titles in 2024 and considering he’d never even made a final before this year, it’s quite remarkable.
Sinner was praised by Laura Robson after his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Taylor Fritz last night and the joy was etched all over his face afterwards.
The player has matched a record that only Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have managed in the past and it’s quite scary just how good he could become.
During his career, Courier was the world’s number-one player and won four Grand Slam titles.
These days he’s a tennis pundit and during the ATP Finals, he was doing some work for the Tennis Channel.
He was seriously impressed with Sinner’s game and there was one element of his performance that reminded him of former USA performer, Andy Roddick.
He told the Tennis Channel Live podcast: “It’s amazing. The one guy who has troubled him this season came into the tournament sick and that was Alcaraz, so sadly we didn’t get to see those two face off as Carlos didn’t make it out of his round-robin.
“Everyone else was just cannon fodder for what Sinner was bringing this week. And when his serve was as accurate as Andy [Roddick]’s that was bananas, to see how many of his serves were within one foot of the line.
“Half of them, that’s impossible to stop. The guy served over 70% first serves in play, obviously, he is going to win if he’s playing like that.”
It’s quite scary how far ahead Sinner is of Alexander Zverev who is currently the second-best player in the world right now.
Sinner is miles ahead of the field and he will go into 2025 brimming with confidence and looking to eclipse the eight titles that he’s won in 2024.
Rank | Player | Official Points |
1 | Jannik Sinner | 11,830 |
2 | Alexander Zverev | 7,915 |
3 | Carlos Alcaraz | 7,010 |
4 | Taylor Fritz | 5,100 |
At 23, he’s going to be a star of the game for years to come and it’s very exciting to see how many Grand Slam titles he could end up winning.
Sinner’s serve was class at the ATP Finals and clearly, that’s something that he’s been working on with his team during training sessions.
The future looks seriously bright for the talented star and he will hope to come again next season and continuing cementing his place at the top of the world rankings.
