Players such as Coco Gauff and Madison Keys joined the club of Grand Slam champions, while the likes of Pegula and the American’s men’s number one Taylor Fritz reached their first major final.

The United States has several players who have been making their presence felt and they bid to build on that throughout 2025 and beyond.

There has already been plenty of movement in the WTA Tour’s top 10 since the 2025 season began.

Keys re-entered the top 10 after winning the Australian Open for the first time. She was ranked at number seven following her success in Melbourne, but is now at career-high of number five.

Pegula has since moved up one spot to number four, while Gauff remains in third position behind Iga Swiatek and top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka.

This means there are now three American women ranked inside the WTA’s top five for the first time since 2003.

The American women in the top five 22 years ago were Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriarti, who were ranked three, four and five respectively. Jessica Pegula posted the feat on her Instagram story and wrote: “Such a cool stat.”

Keys has been the best performer from the three American women naked inside the top five. He reached the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic where she lost to eventual champion Clara Tauson.

Since then, she has won her last 12 matches, which have resulted in her lifting the Adelaide International and Australian Open title.

Pegula lost to Keys in the Adelaide final, but since then she has won just five matches, which includes a run to the Qatar Open quarter-finals.

Gauff’s form has also dropped off since the start of the season. She guided the USA to United Cup glory and reached the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Gauff has not won since competing at Melbourne Park, as she suffered defeat in her opening matches in Qatar and Dubai.
