Great Britain’s Lily Miyazaki was unable to join compatriot Sonay Kartal in the quarter-finals of the Jasmin Open as she fell to Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic.
Miyazaki, the British number five, was aiming to reach the last eight of a WTA Tour tournament for the first time.
But Ruzic, ranked 173rd in the world, needed 71 minutes to complete a 6-3 6-1 win over the 28-year-old in Tunisia and set up a meeting with Italian seventh seed Lucia Bronzetti, who overcame American Ann Li 6-4 7-6 (7-3).
On Wednesday, Kartal reached the first WTA quarter-final of her career with a straight-set victory over Japan’s Mai Hontama.
Elsewhere, Britain’s Francesca Jones moved into the last eight of a WTA 125 event in Slovenia as she beat Croatia’s Petra Marcinko 7-5 6-1.
Bradford-born Jones, 23, will face Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra next.
