Jannik Sinner is into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters after enacting revenge on Ben Shelton.
Shelton beat Sinner at the same stage of the Shanghai Masters last year, but the Italian came out on top this time around.
Sinner clinched a record-breaking win over Taro Daniel to kickstart his tournament, and now faces Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals.
World number one Sinner then won a ‘tough’ match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, before knocking out 16th seed Shelton in straight sets.
The Shanghai Masters top seed beat the American 6-4, 7-6(7-1), with the victor now boasting a 4-1 head-to-head record over Shelton.
He will be full of confidence ahead of his tie with Medvedev, having reached the quarter-finals of all 14 events he has entered in 2024.
And his latest win has now secured a superb feat, with Sinner surpassing Andre Agassi for Masters 1000 winning percentages, as per Tennis.

Based on players with a minimum of 50 matches since Masters 1000 events began in 1990, Sinner is now fifth in the standings with his 74.26% win rate, ahead of Agassi’s 74.11%.
The Italian can be extremely proud of the achievement, although he will not want to slow down at this moment in time.
He may just have his sights set on climbing the winning percentage standings, with Carlos Alcaraz slightly ahead on 76.25%.
Leading the way is Novak Djokovic on 82.02%, followed by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at 82.00% and 77.91% respectively.

Sinner is more than capable of closing in on the legendary figures in the near future, although his main focus will now be on overcoming Medvedev.
And that certainly won’t be an easy task, with the Shanghai Masters fifth seed having made it to the quarter-finals thanks to his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
