Jannik Sinner delivered a commanding performance against Alex de Minaur, securing Italy’s spot in the Davis Cup final in Malaga.
With the Italians now poised to defend their title, they have the opportunity to achieve a historic Davis and Billie Jean King Cup double in 2024.
Jannik Sinner’s decisive victory followed Matteo Berrettini’s hard-fought win over Thanasi Kokkinakis, rounding out a 2-0 triumph in the semi-finals.
Sinner’s incredible season has seen him dominate on his favorite surface, winning seven of his eight titles and losing just three matches on hard courts all year.
After a magnificent ATP Finals win in Turin last week, a strong outing at the Davis Cup has seen Sinner smash a new record, joining the ranks of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Last week, Sinner achieved another historic milestone, becoming just the third player to win the Australian Open, US Open, and ATP Finals in the same season – a feat only Federer and Djokovic have accomplished before him.
The win over world number nine De Minaur was Sinner’s 18th top 10 victory of 2024, a remarkable achievement that places him in pretty tidy company.
He’s just the fourth man since 1990 to record 18 or more top 10 wins in a single season, joining Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
Sinner is the first to reach this mark since Djokovic did so eight years ago in 2016, highlighting the extraordinary consistency and dominance he has displayed all year.
Just over a month ago, the Italian hampered Djokovic’s ambitions for the 100th ATP title of his career with a spellbinding performance in Shanghai.
The 23-year-old’s season has been nothing short of extraordinary, with a stunning collection of titles.

His win-loss record currently stands at an impressive 72-6, as he becomes the first man since Andy Murray to hit over 70 wins in a single season since 2016.
Interestingly, the only final he lost this year was against Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing, marking his most recent defeat and his only one since mid-August.
He did however get one over the Spaniard – who defeated him three times this year on the ATP Tour – at the exhibition event, the Six Kings Slam, winning in the final.
