Jannik Sinner has made a great start to his tennis career and plans to carry on playing for a long time.
The Italian is in the middle of his best ever season in which he claimed two Grand Slams and climbed to the top of the ATP rankings.
The 23-year-old has claimed 65 match wins in 2024 and suffered just five defeats, three of which have come against rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner along with the Spaniard have established themselves as the two leading men of the new generation of young players, and he plans to have a long and successful career.
Jannik Sinner grew up watching the likes of Roger Federer and Serena Williams, who both retired in their forties and were winning Grand Slam titles in their mid thirties.
Fellow legend Rafael Nadal is set to retire at 38 after the Davis Cup finals in November, while Olympic champion Novak Djokovic is still going strong aged 37.
These are the ages Sinner that Sinner still wants to be playing tennis at, and he just wishes for one thing to happen to help him achieve that goal.
“I’m going to play another 15 years until I am 35-40 years old. Let’s hope my body can hold on,” Sinner told Sky Sport Italy.
“They say that 15 years is a long time, but it’s not, because I arrived here in the hotel, the same hotel, same room, and I realised this year passed really fast.
“So, we are trying to make all the possible choices to continue playing tennis for as long as possible for my body, but we also can’t waste time.
“It’s a nice balance of improvement, working with the desire to win and having around the people you want and who you know can help you.”
Sinner was due to compete at the Paris Masters but on Tuesday he announced his withdrawal from the competition.
Sinner is currently suffering from a virus and he appeared in a video on the Paris Masters’ X account apologising to fans who were looking forward to seeing him play in the French capital.
“I came very early to prepare, then felt sick. I have a virus at the moment, which is gonna pass the next 2 or 3 days. Body-wise I’m not ready to compete. I’m very sorry for that,” he said.
On his X account, Sinner added: “This is not an easy announcement to make. My team and I arrived early to prepare as best as possible, but unfortunately, I started feeling unwell during training and saw the doctor on Sunday.
“It turns out I’ve come down with a virus. I’m feeling better now, but I’m still not ready to compete here in Paris. I was really looking forward to this tournament, so it’s disappointing, to say the least. For now, I’m focusing on recovery and getting back to 100%. I’ll be aiming to come back stronger for Turin!”
