LEBANON, Pa. – Ben De Castro jumped three spots into a tie for seventh with an even-par 72 on Sunday’s final round of the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. As a team, IUP men’s golf finished fourth overall.
Gannon cruised to the team championship – winning by 40 strokes – while finishing nine-under par as a team across three rounds. The Knights posted a combined four-under mark on Sunday, while individual medalist Mattia Parrini delivered a clutch four-under round of 68 on Sunday.
Parrini won the tournament with a combined mark of -8, while the Golden Knights placed their entire scoring lineup among the top 10. Pitt-Johnstown (895) finished second in the team standings, ahead of Millersville (900) and IUP (902).
De Castro improved each round in his debut at the PSAC Championships with his round on Sunday. Much like his first round, De Castro posted 13 pars on Sunday. He finished the tournament with 37 pars across three rounds, tied for the most in the field along with Parrini.
John Olsen slipped to a tie for ninth with an 80 on Sunday, finishing the event with a total of 224 (+8). Guillermo Salazar made the biggest jump up the individual leaderboard of any student-athlete in the tournament field with an even-par 72 on Sunday. He rose 11 spots from round two to round three, logging a tie for 13th.
Alex Swinnerton closed the PSAC Championships on a strong note with a one-over 73 on Sunday. Swinnerton posted four birdies during Sunday’s final round and jumped 10 spots to 22nd individually.
Evan Lewis posted a 78 on Sunday to round out the tournament.
IUP was never able to dig out of a sluggish opening round despite strong scores in rounds two and three. The Crimson Hawks were second in the tournament field with 153 pars over the tournament.
