Communication between players and coaches was generally banned on the ATP and WTA Tours until recently. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has stated that it will allow off-court coaching on both tours from January 2025.
The ITF revealed that the decision to allow off-court coaching is fairer and potentially more entertaining for the sport. From 2025, coaches can issue advice either verbally or through hand signals during the playing of a point. Also, players can access player analysis technology when coaching is permitted.
