Is star Boston Celtics Jaylen Brown forward a top-20 player in today’s NBA? This was the question grappled with among many similar such questions in a recent top 100 player ranking for the league’s 2024-25 regular season that was recently put together by Frank Urbina and Raul Barrigon on our sister site HoopsHype.
Not that long ago, this would have been an easy question to answer in the negative, but last season, the Georgia native came into his own as a player, erasing many of the flaws in his game that have contributed to the Celtics falling short of winning an NBA title. But with that last hurdle cleared and a much more complete version of Brown with it, HoopsHype have elevated him into that rarefied air with the Boston star having put up 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 2023-24.
“Brown had a fantastic 2023-24 season, silencing the naysayers who questioned the size of his contract, which was once the largest in NBA history,” writes H/H. “The fact Brown had a Finals MVP-level run in the playoffs after how the previous season ended for Boston, no less, makes his 2024 postseason run all the more impressive.”
“(…) Brown – an elite two-way player with great off-the-dribble scoring prowess and fantastic athleticism around the rim – earned his spot in these rankings.”
