The Los Angeles Lakers have lost eight of their last 11 games, including Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. While they have been short-handed lately due to injuries, their most recent injury is likely their most concerning one.
LeBron James missed their last two games due to left foot soreness not too long after going through arguably the roughest stretch of his career during which he failed to reach 20 points in five of six games. He also left the team on Wednesday for what head coach JJ Redick called “personal reasons,” adding a layer of mystery to the concern surrounding his status.
The 39-year-old is listed as questionable for Sunday’s showdown at Crypto.com Arena versus the Memphis Grizzlies.
With an 18-8 record, the Grizzlies are in second place in the Western Conference, while the Lakers are in 10th place with a 13-12 record. The Grizzlies blew out Los Angeles 131-114 on Nov. 6, and while L.A. then defeated them 128-123 a week later, Ja Morant and Desmond Bane were out of action.
A win over them on Sunday would go a long way in stopping the bleeding for the Lakers, but for that to happen, James will need to return and play like his usual self.
