Iranian athletes have been crowned champions at World Men’s Fitness & Bodybuilding Championships and Annual Congress at all junior, senior, and master categories.
The 78th edition of the competition went underway on the southern Iranian island of Kish for five days ending on Friday, with the representatives of as many as 65 countries in attendance.
The Iranian bodybuilding and fitness team snatched a total of 153 medals, 51 golds, 52 silvers, and 50 bronzes, by the end of the event.
At the junior category, Iran came first with 122 points followed by Iraq and China, which respectively earned 79 and 53 points.
The Islamic Republic came first in the senior category too with 285 points followed by China (152) and Saudi Arabia (147).
The country likewise took the pride of place at the master category with 160 points. The veteran athletes superseded their Russian and Romanian counterparts, who respectively earned 125 and 82 points.
The competition was held through joint cooperation between the Iranian Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness and the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB).
Earlier this year, Iranian bodybuilding champion Hadi Choopan grabbed headlines by winning the Arnold Classic title in the 2024 Arnold Sports Festival.
He had already made history for the country by winning the prestigious title of Mr. Olympia in 2002, and coming second in the event’s subsequent edition in 2023.
Choopan is slated to return to the contest in Las Vegas in October 2024.
