The Iowa High School Athletic Association released first-round Iowa high school football postseason pairings for Class 2A, 1A, A and 8-Player Saturday morning.
The games kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25
There are 32 qualifiers in each class.
Teams qualified via finish in the district standings, with the top four in each district in 2A, 1A and A advancing. The top three in each 8-Player district earned automatic bids. Fourth-place Exira-EHK and Tripoli secured at-large spots via an average margin system, capped at 17 points per district game.
There are no brackets at this point in the playoffs. The 16 first-round winners will be grouped into brackets of four next Saturday. The four winners of those brackets advance to the state semifinals at the UNI-Dome.
There still is one week left in the regular season for Class 5A, 4A and 3A teams. Each of those classes has 16 postseason qualifiers. Those brackets will also be unveiled next Saturday.
