The Indian women’s cricket team faced Ireland in the second ODI of their three-match series in Rajkot, retaining their winning combination from the first game. Vice-captain Deepti Sharma achieved a remarkable milestone during the match, becoming only the second Indian women’s cricketer to play 100 ODIs and 100 T20Is.
Deepti, a star all-rounder, has been an integral part of the Indian team since her debut. She has played 124 T20Is and has now reached the prestigious 100 ODI mark. The first Indian woman to achieve this rare feat was captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has played 178 T20Is and 141 ODIs.
Speaking about her journey in a video shared by the BCCI, Deepti said, “I was dreaming of this (playing for India). After I was selected, I became nervous. I thought to myself that all the seniors are grown-ups. I want to be among them at such a young age. I have learnt how cool and calm you should be.”
Deepti added, “I have always found a role of responsibility. I am mentally ready to play any batting position. When I played 188 in batting, it was my biggest achievement. When I was playing, I never thought that something like this would be recorded.”
IND vs IRE: Updates
Several Indian players have reached the 100-match mark in at least one format. Mithali Raj remains the most-capped Indian in ODIs with 232 matches, followed by Jhulan Goswami (204), Harmanpreet (141), Anjum Chopra (127), and Amita Sharma (116). In T20Is, Harmanpreet leads with 178 matches, followed by Smriti Mandhana (148), Deepti (124), and Jemimah Rodrigues (107). However, only Harmanpreet and Deepti have played over 100 matches in both formats.
Deepti made her ODI debut in 2014 against South Africa and her T20I debut in 2016. Since then, she has grown into one of the finest all-rounders in the game. In ODIs, she has scored 2143 runs and taken 124 wickets in 100 matches. In T20Is, she has 1086 runs and 138 wickets in 124 games. Deepti is also a sought-after player in foreign leagues, having competed in the Women’s Hundred and the Big Bash League.
Deepti’s dedication and consistency continue to inspire as she cements her place among India’s cricketing greats.
