Immersive all but clinched the Eclipse Award for champion 2-year-old filly Friday after sweeping to victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar. The win makes her undefeated in four starts with three Grade 1 wins.
Nooni sent to the lead. It briefly appeared that American Bikini would challenge her, but Nooni instead was able to open up in the first turn. She set a fast pace, 22.00 seconds for the quarter and 44.99 seconds for the half. The pace took a toll and the cavalry caught up around the far turn.
Long shot Vodka With a Twist, who had tracked in third through the early stages, took a narrow lead near the turn for home, with Frizette (G1) winner Scottish Lassie alongside. Meanwhile, three wide, Immersive loomed.
Immersive was moving best, taking the lead and clearing off by 4 1/2 lengths under rider Manuel Franco. Immersive paid her backers $6 to win.
Vodka With a Twist chased on earnestly, claiming the place by 1 1/2 lengths but proving no match for the winner. Quickick, far off the pace early but sustaining a run from the backstretch, got up by a length over Scottish Lassie for show, with La Cara completing the high five.
