Two-Minute Drill: Roar Before the Rolex 24; Jaguars coaching search
Daytona International Speedway comes to life with the Roar Before the Rolex 24 this weekend; the Jaguars are interviewing for their head coaching vacancy.
IMG Academy’s national football team is looking for a new head coach.
Billy Miller, who was with the program for a decade and spend the past three seasons as the head coach, has resigned from IMG and is expected to take a position on Bill Belichick’s coaching staff at the University of North Carolina.
Miller guided the Ascenders to a 25-3 record in his three seasons, including an 18-game win streak from Sept. 3, 2022 to Aug. 22, 2024. IMG went 7-2 in 2024 and finished the season No. 4 on the USA Today Florida Network Super 25 rankings.
“Since 2014, Coach Miller has been an integral part of our football program, serving in various roles,” IMG Academty Director of Football Operations Kyle Brey said in a statement. “In his tenure as head coach, he led our national team to a 25-3 record, including a national championship last season. While we will greatly miss his leadership and the impact he has made on our student-athletes, we remain confident in our program’s strong foundation of leadership, coaches, and support staff, who will continue to uphold the highest standards of student-athlete development.”
If hired at North Carolina, it would be the second time Miller will be an assistant coach under Belichick. Miller was a special teams scout for the New England Patriots in 2014 when the team won the Super Bowl. He joined IMG’s coaching staff the following season.
Miller is expected to play a key role in the Tar Heels recruiting. He’s earned a reputation for helping IMG attract some of the top high school players in the nation the past few years. His experience in that arena could help offset Belichick’s inexperience recruiting as this is the legendary coach’s first time with a college program.
IMG, which won the national championship in 2020, is looking for its fifth coach in seven years.
IMG’s past two hires — Miller and Pepper Johnson – were internal promotions.
“The national football team head coach position at IMG Academy is the premier high school football coaching job in the nation, and we expect significant interest from top candidates as we work to have a new head coach in place by this spring,” Brey said.
