The Dubai Capitals secured a commanding five-wicket victory against the Gulf Giants at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in their ILT20 Season 3 campaign. Dasun Shanaka’s explosive late blitz turned the tide in the Capitals’ favor, showcasing the team’s strategic depth and adaptability to challenging conditions.
Dubai Capitals’ batting coach Ian Bell reflected on the team’s performance, highlighting their adaptability. “I think it was an uneven pitch, but credit to the players—they’ve adapted incredibly well through different pitch conditions,” Bell said, praising their tactical flexibility and mental resilience.
Bell also emphasised the team’s strategic depth, stating, “We knew we had power at the backend there with Sikandar Raza and Rovman Powell. I don’t think we wanted to leave too much too late, for that we focused our backing in the middle lower order as well.”
“I truly enjoy calmness, at least when it comes from a batting perspective. The men maintained their composure despite pressure moments and good bowling from the spinners,” Bell added, commending the players’ temperament under pressure.
The match was defined by pivotal contributions, with Shai Hope’s composed 47 and Sikandar Raza’s steady 26 laying the foundation for Shanaka’s fiery finish. Shanaka’s whirlwind 34 off just 10 balls in the death overs included two massive sixes and a boundary that shattered the Gulf Giants’ bowling attack.
Reflecting on the win, Dasun Shanaka credited his teammates, saying, “Shai Hope and Sikandar Raza were really set there. I only had to put the icing on the cake.” His humble acknowledgment highlighted the team’s collaborative spirit.
This victory marked back-to-back wins for the Dubai Capitals, giving them a crucial momentum boost in the tournament. With firepower from players like Rovman Powell yet to be fully unleashed, the team looks well-positioned for further success.
The Dubai Capitals will aim to extend their winning streak in their upcoming match against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on January 26 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
