CEDAR RAPIDS – Cascade and North Linn, and that’s it.
Those are the only two schools from the Gazette area to earn top district seeds in boys’ basketball. The Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason brackets for Class 1A and 2A Monday afternoon.
Cascade is the top seed in 2A, District 6. The eighth-ranked Cougars (17-3) get a first-round bye, playing either Anamosa or Postville in a district semifinal next week.
The other teams in the six-team district are MFL/Mar-Mac (the second seed), Jesup and Crestwood.
No. 2 district seeds in 2A include North Fayette Valley (District 5), Iowa City Regina (District 7), Monticello (District 8), Mid-Prairie (District 9) and Alburnett (District 11). The top seeds in those districts are Aplington-Parkersburg (5), Grundy Center (7), Northeast Goose Lake (8), West Burlington (9) and Denver (11).
North Linn (18-2) is ranked eighth in 1A and is paired in a nine-team district with Hillcrest Academy (second seed), Springville, Cedar Valley Christian, Central City, Keota, Lone Tree, Rivermont Collegiate and Highland.
