It’s hard to imagine that a December yachting itinerary exploring glorious Caribbean islands could get any better, but for those who like both yachts and golf, IGY just made a hole in one. On December 13, 2024, the IGY Marina will kick off a groundbreaking new yachting season program pairing their iconic marina destinations with access to the world’s top golf courses.
Starting with IGY’s Yacht Club Isle De Sol Marina on St. Maarten, the IGY marina group will host the first event this December, transporting golfers from the Isle De Sol Marina to the prestigious Aurora International Golf Club on the nearby island of Anguilla.
“We are thrilled to launch IGY Golf as part of our commitment to providing our clients with unparalleled luxury experiences,” said Brian Deher, Regional Director of IGY Marinas, adding, “This program allows us to blend two elite passions—yachting and golf—in a way that offers our yacht owners, captains, and crew something truly extraordinary. Each activity is designed to deliver unforgettable moments both on and off the course, while enhancing the overall IGY experience.”
When Richard Schulze took ownership of the 300-acre Aurora in December of 2020 he renamed the CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa, and made important renovations. Schulze founded Best Buy and acted as CEO for a number of years, placing him on the Forbes Billionaires list.
Schulze enlisted the expertise of Greg Norman to remaster the golf experience. One important improvement was the addition of the Avalon Links short course along 19 acres bordering the sixth and seventh holes of the existing course. Additionally, Schulze and Norman chose to add new bunkers, install Latitude 36 Bermudagrass, and TifEagle greens to enhance play.
The Greg Norman designed par 72, 18-hole international course at the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club stretches to 7,165 yards. Starting with a gorgeous view of Rendezvous Bay from the teebox on the first hole, the course presents a varied layout, ending with a challenging shot over the 18th hole salt pond.
The last hole then ascends 40 feet to a narrow green guarded by three stealthy bunkers. Continuous views overlooking Rendezvous Bay make the course one of the most picturesque in the Caribbean. The difficult finishing holes make every effort worthwhile, and a 19th hole that is truly bliss.
The events are scheduled throughout the yachting season at IGY Marinas from around the Caribbean to the most revered courses in Europe. Designed to offer yacht owners and their guests the opportunity to play at premier clubs while simultaneously enjoying hospitality, entertainment, and networking.
An elevated experience awaits IGY Marina Trident members for owners with yachts over 80 feet in length, delivering personalized amenities, priority reservations, and curated social engagements.
“We are excited to welcome IGY Marinas and their yachting guests to the Aurora International Golf Club,” said Scott Delong, General Manager of Golf Operations at Aurora International Golf Club. “This collaboration is an incredible opportunity to showcase our world-class course to yachting enthusiasts and look forward to hosting an unforgettable event that merges the excitement of golf with the luxury of the yachting lifestyle.”
A subsidiary of MarineMax, IGY has premium destinations in 13 countries, with 23 marinas serving more than 10,000 customers annually. Some of the more famous destination include Ibiza, Malaga, St. Katharine Docks, Cabo San Lucas, Rodney Bay, Savannah, Miami, and Turks and Caicos. Soon, recently opened Saudi Arabia’s Sindalah Island IGY Marina will have a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf resort at their NEOM project on the Red Sea.
Participants in the competition will accept awards at a festive celebration at IGY Yacht Club Isle De Sol, with beautiful Simpson Bay as the backdrop. Registration for IGY’s pairing of yachts and golf is available online for a $270 fee. An $85 fee allows non-golfers to join the fun. That allows guests to walk the beach, enjoy the waterpark, and join in the post game awards lunch.
