In the aftermath of Texas canceling its Spring Game, fans wondered if there would be any offseason event to build hype. At last night’s town hall, Chris Del Conte announced a Fan Day will take its place on Saturday, April 26. Though Texas Football won’t be strapping on pads and helmets to fill the void left by no live football in the spring, it’s something to generate excitement.

Fans will get to be on the 40 Acres with festivities like player autographs and a team shop. Did you know The Longhorn Alphabet: Texas Football A to Z has an autograph page? Wouldn’t your son or daughter like to have Arch Manning or Anthony Hill’s signature in a book they can keep forever?
Steve Sarkisian and Del Conte also said “much more to come” as far as Fan Day. Here’s what I’d like to see included to make it an unforgettable event.
Who wouldn’t want to see a first-to-three-scores 7-on-7 game with current and former Texas players mixed together? Manning and Jamaal Charles in the same backfield with Colin Simmons and Michael Huff on defense. Vince Young throwing a bomb to Ryan Wingo with Aaron Williams in coverage. Come on! The nostalgia would be off the charts. Texas Baseball has a way of making the alumni game work—this could be epic.
Not literally die, but a progressively challenging Longhorn trivia competition that tests the depths of fan knowledge. Everyone starts on the top row of the west side of DKR. With each correct answer, contestants move down. Eventually, it becomes a contest for front-row, 50-yard-line season tickets.
The questions start easy. What’s the name of the Texas mascot? Bevo. Everyone moves a few rows closer to Campbell-Williams Field. What was the name of the live mascot before Bevo? If you don’t know Pig Bellmont, you’re sleeping in the stands.
Ever seen Hands on a Hard Body? One of the most underrated documentaries ever. Contestants try to win a new pickup by keeping a hand on the vehicle as long as possible. But instead of a truck, fans must keep their hands on Big Bertha, the giant drum. Winner gets to hire the next head coach whenever a vacancy arises in the athletic department.
This Fan Day would be awesome. Hit us with your ideas.
