SOMERSET, N.J. – Jamal Hutchison of North Carolina Central was named Northeast Conference (NEC) men’s golfer of the week for the second straight time on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
A Fletcher, N.C., native, Hutchison was also chosen NEC men’s co-golf prime performer of the week.
Hutchison earned weekly honors after winning the Arcis HBCU Division I Championship in Weston, Fla., on Feb. 23-24. The NCCU golfer finished first among 30 golfers with a four-under par 176 (69-73-34) in the three-round tournament.
Hutchison, who posted a 70.4 stroke average, started the event with a 3-under 69 for a two-stroke lead in the first round. He carded a 1-over 73 in the second round but bounced back with a 2-under 34 in the final round to win. The third round was shortened to nine holes.
Last Wednesday, Hutchison was named NEC men’s co-golfer of the week. He shot a very respectable 1-under 142 (72-70) to finish 20th in a field of 84 golfers at the Savannah Intercollegiate. His stroke average was 71.0 in the tournament.
NCCU plays again March 10-11 at The Surf Club Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. The course site is Surf Golf & Beach Club.
