EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Sunday was a big day out at Oak Meadow Country Club. It was the final round of the 49th annual Evansville Women’s City Golf Tournament.

North and USI grad, Taylor Howerton, had the lead, after Saturday’s first round at Fendrich. She led by one shot, over UE grad, Allison Enchelmayer.

Let’s head to hole 12, and here’s Meghan Craven’s second shot on the par 4, and look at this. She punches it up on the green, and it rolls right up near the hole. That leaves her with a makeable birdie putt, and she nails it!

Southridge grad and USI golfer, Baileigh Schneider also makes a nice chip on 12, look at that, so now she has a chance for birdie, and she buries it.

Next, here’s Castle grad, Hailey Kirkland, blasting it out of the sand, and oohh, what a shot! Almost goes in for eagle, but hey, that’s a great birdie!

Two-time champion, Kayla Osborne began the day just two shots back, and here on 14, she drills a great birdie putt.

UE grad, Allison Enchelmayer, still chasing Howerton here, and she makes up a stroke, with this sweet birdie on 14.

Howerton played steady most of the day, holding onto her narrow lead, thanks to pars like this one on 10.

Then, on 17, she really needs this par to go down, to stay ahead by 2, and she nails it.

Then, on 18, Enchelmayer has a chance to put some big-time pressure on Howerton, as she makes a great chip, but oohh, it is just left, and so she settles for par.

So, still up two, Taylor Howerton just needs to bogey to win, but she says to heck with that, and she buries the long par putt, to win her first-ever women’s city title, by two strokes, over Allison Enchelmayer.

“I’m excited and happy. This is a great feeling, ya know, I’m excited to win first Women’s City,” said Howerton. “I kept steady. I just kept telling myself, try to keep yourself cool, ya know, one shot at a time, and I pulled it through. The last couple putts I just really focused and made sure to sink them.”

“I’m very happy with how I played. This is my first time playing in the Evansville Women’s City, so I’m very happy with the experience that I got to have and how I played,” said Enchelmayer. “I gave myself a lot of opportunities. I didn’t really give anything away that I shouldn’t have given away. So, I’m really happy with the improvement I made throughout the day and really keeping it together in the stretch.”

So, here are the final results: Taylor Howerton is your 2024 women’s city champ, with a final score of 142, which is even par. Allison Enchelmayer finished two shots back, in second, and then Kayla Osborne was third.

One interesting note about Howerton, is that her mom Luann, won the senior division city championship this weekend, and Taylor’s dad, Jeff, is a past men’s city champion!
