Some years, there is no drama surrounding the No. 1 overall pick in an NFL draft, like last year, when the Bears were zeroed in on Caleb Williams for months.
This doesn’t appear to be one of those years.
NFL Network reported Sunday that the Titans have an “open mind” about the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the domino that will set off a massive chain of events that will impact the futures of many other franchises — including the Giants, who hold the No. 3 pick.
“All options are on the table,” the report said, including trading the pick.
The Titans, Browns (No. 2 overall) and Giants could all use a quarterback, but Tennessee’s president of football operations Chad Brinker said last month the team would not pass on a “generational talent,” which led many to speculate they would perhaps target two-way star Travis Hunter or edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are considered the top two quarterbacks in the draft class and candidates to go early, though experts are down on this QB class compared to last year’s.
Still, a quarterback-needy team willing to take a chance on one of the two prospects could try to trade up with the Titans to get their guy and impacting the Giants’ choices — unless the Giants erase the risk and trade up themselves.
Giants GM Joe Schoen explored trading up in last year’s draft, with an eye on Drake Maye, before selecting wide receiver Malik Nabers.
They stuck with Daniel Jones to begin the 2024 season, only to cut him after 10 games, leaving them back to square one at the most important position in the sport.
Sam Darnold leads the way among free-agent quarterback options, with Russell Wilson another potential option for teams, and Kirk Cousins is another veteran option on the trade market.
Which direction the Giants go to solve their quarterback crisis might not be completely in their hands.
