Ole Miss basketball was thoroughly dominated in a difficult road matchup.
The Rebels lost 106-76 at No. 1 Auburn on Wednesday night. It is the most points they have allowed since coach Chris Beard took over the program in 2023.
With Selection Sunday coming in less than three weeks, here’s a quick look at how the Rebels’ NCAA tournament position could change.
Despite the one-sided nature of the game, Ole Miss’ loss at Auburn is explainable.
The Tigers are No. 1 in all major polls and have a No. 1 seed all but secured. Ole Miss should not be penalized too harshly for a loss at Neville Arena, where Auburn has lost just once this season.
Ole Miss appears to be headed for a middle seed in the NCAA tournament. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projects Ole Miss as a No. 7 seed. CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm projects the Rebels as a No. 6 seed. The loss may help settle the Rebels’ seed at a No. 7, if nothing drastic changes.
The loss puts more emphasis on the remainder of the season. The Rebels have three games left, and because they are on a three-game losing streak, they would do well to finish strong against Oklahoma, No. 5 Tennessee and No. 3 Florida to regain momentum before the SEC tournament.
Three games remain on Ole Miss’ schedule before the SEC tournament.
