Super Bowl 59 will see the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles face off, and all eyes will be on star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs’ signal-caller is putting together one of the best careers any NFL player has experienced. He’s played a critical role in Kansas City’s pursuit of a third straight Super Bowl title.
In this year’s AFC playoffs, Mahomes led Kansas City to wins over the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills. He had two rushing touchdowns in a 32-29 victory in the AFC championship game.
Whether it’s coming up with the game-winning touchdown through the air or scrambling for a key first down, Mahomes’ ability to deliver in crunch time has been critical as the Chiefs continue one of the best runs any team has had in league history.
Here’s what to know about one of the key players in the 2025 Super Bowl, including his age and some notable career stats:
Patrick Mahomes is just 29 years old. His quick ascension to starter with the Chiefs means he could end up racking up wins and accolades for years to come. It may feel like Mahomes has been playing forever, but the 2024 season is only his eighth in the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes entered the NFL in 2017, when the Kansas City Chiefs drafted him out of Texas Tech in the first round of that year’s draft.
Since then, Mahomes has played eight NFL seasons, seven as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. Kansas City has gone to the playoffs in every season since Mahomes has been the starter, and this year’s trip to Super Bowl 59 will be the team’s fifth in that timespan.
Patrick Mahomes has already had one of the great NFL careers for any quarterback.
He didn’t play much as a rookie in 2017, but the Texas native took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018. Since then, he’s been the most reliable star in the NFL, helping the Chiefs establish a dynasty.
Super Bowl 59 will be Mahomes’ fifth appearance in the NFL title game. He’s 3-1 on Super Sunday and was named Super Bowl MVP three times. Pair that with regular season dominance, and Mahomes is destined to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame whenever he hangs up his cleats.
A look at Mahomes’ accolades:
Super Bowl 59 will be broadcast on Fox. For fans looking to stream the game, options include Fubo — which is offering a free trial for new subscribers — or Tubi.
