Dick’s Sporting Goods and its sister store, Public Lands, are liquidating their Polaris Fashion Place locations to make way for a new interactive sports store.
The stores, which are adjacent to one another on the mall’s north side, are holding clearance sales now in anticipation of the change. As of Thursday, most items at Dick’s were 50% off, while items at Public Lands were discounted by 75%.
Store officials told customers the stores would close after liquidation to make way for a Dick’s House of Sport store, a two-year-old concept from Dick’s that combines a retail sporting goods store with sports training such as batting cages, climbing walls, fitness classes and indoor golf.
Plans submitted to the city call for a two-level store.
“House of Sport is an approximately 100,000+ square foot store that provides customers with an incredible assortment of products along with in-store experiences including a climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackManTM simulators, and multi-sport cages that can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer and give customers an opportunity to try product while measuring and tracking their performance,” according to a company announcement about previous openings.
Dick’s said it plans to open 75 to 100 House of Sport stores by 2027.
Representatives of Dick’s did not respond to a Dispatch query about the Polaris change, but the Pittsburgh-based chain is advertising for a “an Executive Store Director to join the team in our new Polaris, OH House of Sport store!”
House of Sport is the latest concept from Dick’s, which more than 850 Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Public Lands, Moosejaw, Golf Galaxy Performance Center, Going Going Gone! and Warehouse Sale stores.
The change brings an end to the short stay of Public Lands, which replaced Field & Stream at Polaris in November 2021. The store, the second Public Lands to open, sold high-end clothing and outdoor gear targeted at eight activities: camping, hiking, fishing, biking, climbing, running, paddling and skiing.
