Good Morning Broncos Country!
With the Broncos on the bye week and everything fairly quiet around Broncos Country, I am taking this opportunity to take a very early look at the 2025 NFL Draft. I expect this offseason to be one in which the Broncos’ decision-makers will emphasize surrounding Bo Nix with as many weapons as they can obtain.
It appears Sean Payton has hit a home run with his selection of quarterback Bo Nix, so surrounding with as much talent as possible should and likely will be a priority. The team needs playmakers at running back, tight end, and potentially to a lesser extent, wide receiver.
Veteran Javonte Williams is a pending free agent and is unlikely to re-sign with the Broncos. That will leave Jaleel McLaughlin and rookie Audric Estime as the Broncos remaining backs on the roster. I expect them to add to the backfield this upcoming offseason and the draft will give them multiple talented prospects to choose from. Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty figures to be one of, if not the first back off the board while Omarion Hampton and Kaleb Johnson figure to be early selections as well. I would not be surprised if one of those three backs ends up in Denver this spring.
The wide receiver position is a bit trickier. Courtland Sutton is having another great season and could be eyeing an extension once again this offseason which could ignite the trade rumors that have been a constant the last few offseasons. Then you have Devaughn Vele, Marvin Mims, and Troy Franklin all on rookie contracts and entering their second and third seasons with the Broncos. Will they look to add another early-round pick to this unit? Or will they spend for one in free agency, potentially trade for someone, or keep Sutton and continue with basically the same unit in 2025?
On the other hand, the tight end position will be a glaring need this offseason. Former third-round pick Greg Dulcich has been waived leaving Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, and Lance Krull to be the Broncos’ tight ends. Adding a legit receiving threat should be a priority this offseason and I believe Michigan’s Colston Loveland would be the perfect fit. He would give Bo Nix a big and athletic target who can be a legit receiving threat on offense which is something they are currently missing. We are months out from the draft but right now, he is one of my favorite options for the Broncos in the draft.
Now, adding a playmaker in round one goes out the window if the Broncos lose left tackle Garett Bolles to free agency. The veteran is a pending free agent and would be one of the top free agents available if he does hit the open market. With his play being solid and the Broncos offensive line protecting Nix very well this season, I anticipate the two-sides to agree to some sort of extension to avoid him hitting free agency. If not, left tackle quickly becomes the Broncos number one need this offseason and one they could address during the draft.
Tell me what you think Broncos Country! What prospects are you intrigued by and what direction do you think the Broncos go this offseason?
